Healthier learning foodie
Ok, so I like food. Yes, I'm a foodie who has loved the foodie experience but has also learned there is a price. Gaining weight! I officially became a true skinny fat girl in December 2011. At least that's when I got on my scale and was sad to see what my weight totaled. Ugh..... I still looked to be a skinny girl to most everyone else. But to me, I was the heaviest I have ever been and not fitting in most of my clothes. Plus, I hadn't exercised in, I don't remember when. Made up my mind that if I was going to be a foodie and have my foodie adventures, I need to do something different. First. Foodie Adventure Another couple, my husband and myself decided to do a brunch challenge. We would try all of D Magazine Best 25 Brunch spots. Then review, rate and blog back to magazine our experience. Second. Change food choices I for the most part know I should eat my veggies, fruits, lean meats and go easy on the sweets. But I started watching Dr Oz and really began to make changes in my daily diet. Got rid of white flour products and now only eat whole wheat products. Eat high fiber, lots of fresh veggies and mix in fruits. I'm lazy when it comes to fruit but I love berries and easier to eat. If I have to cut to prepare forget it. That's why I buy cut apples, I know lazy, but its how I work. I'm trying recipes. Some great some not so great. Also, I cut out normal chips which was a big snack in my household. But suggestions on the show have some great protein based alternative chips that are awesome. Reading the ingredients and labels on packaged foods has made a huge difference. Especially with sodium and sugar content. Third. Exercise I have a gym membership but got bored. So I started once a week a core or barre class. I love these classes. Very different from weight training. They are techniques that ballet dancers learn. It's to elongate your muscles and make you lean and toned. And yes, they are harder than you might think but you get better as you go and it's all your own body weight so you can't get a bulky look. I'm always amazed at what some of the people in class can do when my legs are shaking so bad I'm afraid I'm about to fall. Not kidding but I always go back for more. So now, I'm a healthier learning foodie!
